Our Marriage Rule

Have any of you ever read The Happiness Project? If you have not I suggest you put that on top of your reading list. It's a total eye opener and I can honestly say it changed my life a little-I hate to sound all dramatic on you but really. I read it shortly after having Remy and it could not have been more perfect timing!

She spoke a lot about marriage and one of my favorite "rules"  she made for herself was to never speak bad about her husband to anyone. I adopted that rule myself and it was recently refreshed at a good friends wedding a couple weekends ago. Throughout the ceremony the advice the nearly newlyweds were given was to never speak negative of each other as well as keep some things sacred between the two of them. My mind instantly flew back to the chapter Gretchen wrote and I took it all in. I never shared this little "rule" with Cameron and wasn't expecting him to actually even mention it after the wedding. I was however expecting him to crack some kind of wise joke about the justice of peace mentioning the legalization of marijuana and gay marriage since he has been back in the state of Washington. Oddly he did not.

Perhaps it's because he's only been to two weddings in his lifetime-his sisters and his dads. And he was all wrapped up in wedding goodness or maybe it was the 100 degree weather. I'm not so sure, but his first words to me after the wedding were how he loved what the justice of the peace said. Isn't that so true, whenever you involve other people weather it's good or bad it never ends up well. What! I shared everything else about Gretchen's journey to him why not that?  I'm guessing because he would nod as if he was listening and I'd just keep on talking, like we do.

Needless to say, that's our new rule for our togetherness and I'm in love with it. the fact that it had such an effect on him startled me and I adore that he cares so much.
